i am happy while being in san francisco there is such an amazing attention to the environment. people are very environment conscious and i see community aggregations also to have renewable energy. it makes me very happy because in italy we have been following this path for a very long time. for example in the first six months of this year we installed photovoltaic panels larger than the united states all put together. it shows you the extent of the revolution happening. i am sure italian companies will be happy to work with the local institutions that have started to generate projects that will somehow go in that direction, and also we want to have parties and communication activities to show the people in the street that it is important to have sustainable behaviors and not to leave a carbon footprint behind us. >> [inaudible] >> yeah, if i understand correctly because -- you said about the innovation -- if we? >> [inaudible] >> yeah, okay. well, we're going to have in the museum of computer science in mountain view an exhibition show casing what italians have done to create s

now we are developing alternative ways to conduct oversight in afghanistan's evolving security environment. for example we have local nationals on our staff who are not subject to the same security restrictions that our american employees are. in some cases we may have to rely on them. we are also exploring the use of geospatial imaging and finally we will continue to cooperate and work with our other inspector general's offices to see if we can combine our activities are come up with the best practices to do oversight. these tools are helpful but they are not perfect. the golden standard, the gold standard i should say on oversight is a u.s. government employee who is trained to do oversight going out and inspecting a site and kicking the tires. but unfortunaunfortuna tely they may not be able to do that for very much longer in afghanistan. i am particularly grateful to ambassador cunningham and general allen for their continued expressions of support for our work. both promise me during my latest visit that they would ensure that our people would be able to access the same locations that

the political environment is very, very difficult. the economic underpinnings that we're facing now in the environment that we're going to have to deal, you know, for the economy, is actually better than it's been in some time. we've chewed through a lot of problems. a lot of the leverage on the banking side, on the corporate side and on the individual side has been chewed through. housing has probably in all likelihood has turned around at this point. the energy situation in the united states is terrific, and beyond the contemplation of anybody who grew up when i grew up sort of secure in the knowledge that the u.s. is going to have to import energy forever, and that may not necessarily be the case. so those are all tailwinds. the big problem is getting the country to receive that bounty and to plan for it and to structure itself in the right way. if you take energy, for example, we really have implemented an energy policy that will be able to take advantage of some of those blessings that have come our way. >> what do you make of th
